When men begin to experience hair loss, it can be devastating to their emotions and self-esteem. But many people are not aware of how much women’s hair loss occurs in the population, and the impact on women is just as severe. This condition in women is a worldwide problem. People tend to think that women should not lose their hair, and that is just one reason that hair loss for a woman is such an excruciating thing to have happen. There’s an underlying attitude that women should never lose their hair, and the media and entertainment industries only reinforce that notion. So for a woman to lose her hair is almost like losing her femininity and any semblance of beauty. Sadly, hair loss affects just as many women as it does men. We’ll now explore a few of the reasons for hair loss in women.
First, we’d like to mention that medications that some women take will have a direct impact on her ability to keep her hair. So many women undergo chemotherapy treatment, and that’s one thing that will do it. Other medical treatments include certain types of medication that simply causes it due to chemical interaction with a woman’s body. But some experiences are not of direct hair loss. In such situations, it’s merely a cessation of new hair growth that is the effect. In such conditions of interactivity, eventually she will appear to be balding or hair is falling out, but that’s not the case. It’s hard to tell the difference between the two.
It’s no wonder with all the incredible changes occurring during pregnancy that a woman’s hair is also greatly affected. While some women enjoy increased hair growth, others deal with the opposite. The ‘lucky’ ones who did see an increased amount of hair, will find it doesn’t last very long.
This is common, but it can be shocking if you are not ready for it. Things will settle down in your body after you have had your baby. The important thing is to avoid over-reacting to it.
One thing men and women have in common is that their hair will grow and fall-out in cycles. The average lifespan of a single strand of hair is a few years. Hair is shed after approximately six years, and it will experience a rate of growth of 0.5 inch per month.
There is a genetically caused condition for some women where the process can be stopped. There isn’t a known genetic engineering based treatments for that condition. But there is some positive news about this because it is not permanent in the sense that the cessation is permanent, the frequency of occurrence is random and doesn’t last forever. While embarrassing, there are definite approaches to cope with it.
Women’s hair loss isn’t as widely publicized as it is with men’s hair loss. So who really knows why this is the case, we don’t know. It is perfectly understandable that most women are probably too embarrassed to seek help with this condition. However we’re hopeful this will change. But with enough time and awareness, these problems women face will be better understood and dealt with.
